CCWD Board Approves Los Vaqueros Reservoir Expansion Project!
After review of the Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (Final EIS/EIR), the CCWD Board of Directors certified the EIR and approved the Los Vaqueros Reservoir Expansion Project on March 31, 2010. The CCWD Board of Directors resolusion is available here. The project includes expanding the current reservoir from 100,000 acre-feet to 160,000 acre-feet.
Revised Draft Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act Report Now Available!
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has released a Revised Draft Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act Report (Report) to public agencies including CCWD, Reclamation, the National Marine Fisheries Service, the California Department of Fish and Game. The purpose of the Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act consultation is to conserve fish and wildlife resources and preparation of the Report is required by law. The Report is also available to the public.
The U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation, Mid-Pacific Region (Reclamation) and the Contra Costa Water District (CCWD) have released the Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (Final EIS/EIR) for the Los Vaqueros Reservoir Expansion Project.
The Draft EIS/EIR, released in February 2009, evaluated four alternatives including expansion of the existing 100,000 acre-foot reservoir to either 160,000 acre-feet or 275,000 acre-feet. The Final EIS/EIR consists of the entire Draft EIS/EIR (Volumes 1, 2 and 3) and Volume 4, which includes responses to comments received on the Draft EIS/EIR from agencies, organizations and individuals. The key differences between the Draft EIS/EIR and the Final EIS/EIR include the following:
- Facility refinements including the reduction of the Eastside Trail, realignment of the Westside Trail, and the addition of a second borrow area for dam construction
- Hydrologic modeling updates to reflect new Delta conditions
- Changed status of Alternative 3, which will not be recommended for approval at this time based on the results of the impact analysis
